shore trip
We took an impromptu trip down the shore today. I slept in late and was slow deciding on an adventure. I thought we'd splash around a local lake then figured the beach might be more fun. The blanket was meant for all of us.
We went to Fisherman's Cove, which was OK, probably a one time trip. It was the shortest drive, but still too far to have an appetite for more. Clicking through reviews this morning I saw one that said if you're within 30 minutes it's a good park, and I think I understand that a little better now having driven three times as much each way.
The Roman chamomile in the herb garden is flowering. I just read a line in Walden about being rich in proportion to the things you can afford to ignore, and the native perennials look like a million dollars in the summer. Not that I haven't had to do some modicum of watering and weeding, but I've been away so much they're like a welcoming party when we return, an absent father's dream.
I went to the Return of Swamp Thing Rifftrax Live on Thursday. I haven't been to one of those since before COVID. It was familiar and fun, though the theater was mostly empty. Previous events have had a larger draw, but I'm chalking the difference up to the world's struggle to kick into an after COVID gear. That drive was considerably shorter than today's, though extended through road closures. I would make that trip again.
